Microsoft is expected to launch its eagerly anticipated latest mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7 today, and to announce when its first handsets will be available and on the market.
This time last year, the software giant introduced another OS version called Windows Mobile 6.5, which later became known as Windows Phone 6.5 – an upgrade for the older Windows Mobile 6.1.
Windows Phone 7 is a marked improvement on the former operating system and offers a much more interesting product, something that is at long last up their with its rivals Android and Blackberry.
Said to be ‘revolutionary’, it includes a new user interface, improved integration with social media networking and redesigned menus throughout.
But the real icing on the cake is said to be the mobile devices running under the operating system, details of which are due to be revealed today at a launch event in New York where Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, will announce the upcoming release of Windows Phone 7 hansets in the US and when these are likely to be extended across the globe. We’ll keep you posted on the outcome of today’s announcements.
